Garforth Arts Festival Primary School Rock Band Project 2014

Garforth Arts Festival has been working with Rock School UK to deliver intensive, week-long residencies in Garforth’s Primary Schools. Each school has seen around 50 young people take part in a full week of learning new instruments, rehearsing, song writing, recording and performing.

At the end of the week each school held a big gig with all the new bands that had been formed performing to the rest of the school and their parents. Many of these young people had not played rock instruments before and most had not played in a band with their friends. This project has been a fantastic celebration of the talent and enthusiasm of these young musicians and we hope they go on to develop their skills and continue to enjoy making music.

Some of the bands created during this project will take to the main stage at the Playground Party to kick off the event from 2pm so get down early so you don’t miss these amazing young musicians and you could even have a go yourself...

Rock School UK Workshop at The Playground Party on Saturday 12th July

Come and join Rock School UK for an open workshop where you will spend the afternoon working alongside other like-minded young musicians with whom you’ll form a new band, learn a couple of songs, decide on a band name and perform a gig all in the same day!

Drum kits, guitars, bass guitars, amps, keyboards & full vocal PA systems will be provided – so just take your seat, plug in… And let’s jam! (If you already play something else and want to come along and join in, then please do but we cannot be responsible for any equipment you bring)

All Rock School UK workshops and courses are for any instrument and any ability. Complete beginners are more than welcome.

This workshop has a limited amount of spaces for each instrument and places will allocated on a first come - first served basis.

To take part in this workshop you must have purchased a ticket to the Playground Party because it takes place within that event – see here for details. Participants will need to sign up to this workshop on the day of the event at the Information Point which will be clearly signposted.
